From the recording Voyageur In Song (EP)

A simple piece of wood used in four different places in both the interior and exterior of Voyageur is taken from a still sturdy grain elevator in Saskatchewan built by the Doukhobors, a Christian pacifist sect from Russia who, after persecution by Tsar Nicholas, immigrated to Canada in 1899 with support from author Leo Tolstoy using the proceeds of his book, “Resurrection”.

Lyrics

They fought against the war
By burning their own guns
And faced a Russian Csar
Who gave them no choice but to run

A safe passage from Leo Tolstoy
A chance to realize
The truth & resurrection in his words
Settled in Saskatchewan
Fertile soil in their hands
And faith & mother nature kept them alive

Now the sun goes down
And their prayers rise up
Sewing seeds of love & peace
Gentle spirit, gentle spirit wrestlers

With freedom on their side
They slowly found their way
How to toil and thrive
In harmony each day

Raising hope in an elevator
A meeting place for for generations
100 years, still it’s standing strong
Pioneers and open fields
Wood & grain & peaceful dreams
Surrendering to every kind of sky

As the sun goes down
Their prayers rise up
Sewing seeds of love & peace
Gentle spirit, gentle spirit wrestlers
